How to check a printed page
- Load the matching paper. This sample is US Letter, so use Letter paper and portrait orientation.
- Choose Actual size or 100%. Turn off Fit, Scale to fit, and Shrink oversized pages before printing.
- Measure four spaces. Put a ruler from one grid line to the fifth line. At the intended scale, that span is 1 inch (25.4 mm).
- If it is off, change the print settings and try again. A browser preview or a correct PDF file cannot show what a printer driver did to the paper.

Is 1/4 inch graph paper the same as 5 mm paper?
No. A quarter inch is exactly 6.35 mm. Choose 5 mm when you need a metric grid and 1/4 inch when you need the larger imperial grid.
Which paper size should I choose?
US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches and is common in the United States and Canada. A4 is 210 × 297 mm and is common in most other countries. Choose the size your printer is loaded with.
Why does the grid look smaller on my screen?
The preview scales to fit the browser. The downloaded PDF stores the selected spacing in PDF points, so use Actual size or 100% in the print dialog.
Does a correctly sized PDF guarantee a correctly sized printed page?
No. It confirms the page and grid geometry inside the PDF. Printer settings can still scale the sheet, so print at Actual size or 100% and measure the result with a ruler when the grid is being used as a physical scale.
